I just came across this interesting photo gallery and I decided to share it. The choice of photos and commentary is pretty well made.
I’ll just add a few words of my own.
The Череповец city is housing Северсталь, the second biggest steel conglomerate in Russia. A famous movie, Груз 200 (Ladunek 200, Cargo 200, try searching for it) was partly made there. I highly recommend watching it. Shocking film.
The attached photo presents
It’s one of the few cities located in the permafrost, and also one of the most polluted. It is also industrial and the first workers there were POWs. They extract copper, sulphur, nickel, palladium, cobalt, platinum, and smelt it too. Thanks to that, snow in Norilsk has all the shades of gray. The locals live 10 years shorter than the average Russian. Since 2001, Norilsk is closed to all foreigners except Belorussians, partly because of the ICBM missile silos located in nearby mountains.
